Evolutionary biology--MIRT- intraclonal heterogeneity ICH

myelomabeacon.com

The Myeloma Beacon has a news article from UAMS-MIRT explaining some of the latest research on
cellular clones, evolutionary biology and the way myeloma starts out with perhaps 6-8 clones at diagnosis.  These early clones than battle it out with one or more dominant clones attacking our immune system.  Treatments can be carefully tailored to attack all the clones and prevent secondary disease development in the form
of relapses and extend progression free survival.  That is why induction therapy with autologus stem cell transplant upfront with a combination of cyclical drugs given in combinations is our best bet for long term survival.
